He began his orchestral career as the principal bassist with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera and held those posts for fourteen years. He also performs with the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group and in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music series. Rofé has performed as a guest artist at many music festivals, including the Chautauqua Symphony, the Kapalua Chamber Music Festival, the San Diego Mainly Mozart Festival, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Sitka Chamber Music Festival.

In addition to performing, Rofé has served on the music faculty of several colleges and universities, including California State University at Los Angeles, California State University at San Diego, the Chautauqua Summer School of Music, Pepperdine University, Occidental College, and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
