Xavier Muzik

Xavier Muzik is fascinated by the tools we use to assign meaning and purpose to individuals, places, and things. Through his lifelong negotiations around race, Xavier learned of the fluid, normative nature of 'essence' as it were. The US social order casts race as an essential and immutable facet of identity. Xavier's practice inspects and dissects this assertion. He initially began this exploration by recruiting analytical tools for synthesis to reverse engineer and define his identity on his terms. This pursuit is lifelong, so it does not represent the breadth of Xavier's creative interests and output. He has also replicated this approach to inspect his relationship to realms beyond race, such as mental health, spiritualism, and connection, utilizing metaphor and musical convention as compositional tools. Because of this, his music is narratively organized and sonically specific.

Xavier Muzik holds a Master's Degree in Music Composition and a graduate minor in Creative Community Development from the Mannes School of Music at The New School. He received his Undergraduate Degree in Music Composition from the California Institute of the Arts.
