SPEEDO, a short documentary, follows bass-baritone singer Ryan Speedo Green as he performs in the LA Phil’s bespoke production of Richard Wagner’s opera Das Rheingold. Green explains how he was granted a second chance in life thanks to the power of music and his village of role models. With an ever-growing repertoire of operatic roles under his belt, and having performed on the world’s greatest stages, he steps into his biggest career challenge to date. Performing as Wotan, one of the most coveted characters in the venerable Ring cycle, Green unexpectedly discovers a new freedom in being the Speedo on stage that he’s always hoped to be out of the spotlight.
