Weezer with the LA Phil & YOLA

YOLA alumni joined members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Weezer for a historic performance.

The LA-based icons collaborate with members of the LA Phil and YOLA on performances of songs from "OK Human" and "Weezer" (The Blue Album). Plus, singer Rivers Cuomo catches up with an old friend—the LA Phil’s Akiko Tarumoto.

Four YOLA alumni—Fabiola Marinero (violin), Yuriko Imada (violin), Samantha Rosas (viola), and Zenaida Aparicio (cello)—joined members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Weezer for an historic Sound/Stage performance capture this spring.

As veterans of the YOLA program, they are no strangers to the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage or performing alongside world-renowned musicians. For them, what was most impactful about the day was reuniting with their friends on stage for the first time in more than a year…

Playing music with my friends made me remember why I loved performing and playing music. Getting to share this moment with some of my closest friends made the whole experience more memorable.”

Yuriko Imada, YOLA Alumni

“You could the feel how happy everyone was to see each other. The last time I played in the Hall was actually during my high school graduation and now I am graduating from undergrad. It felt like a full circle moment!

Samantha Rosas, YOLA alumni

I was both thrilled and terrified to work with other musicians again after being quarantined for what felt like an eternity. I had so much fun working in person again and it made me feel hopeful about the current situation; it was really nice to see how we are slowly adapting and trying to make things work.”
