    WHAT:

    Former Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl Leonard Slatkin returns for a pair of programs, Tuesday, August 24, at 8 p.m. and Thursday, August 26, at 8 p.m. For the Tuesday program Slatkin is joined by Hollywood Bowl Hall of Famer violinist Sarah Chang performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The all-Shostakovich program also includes Tahiti Trot and the powerful Symphony No. 5.

    The second half of the Thursday program features Sir James Galway performing Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 and Bach’s Badinerie from Suite No. 2, as well as Doppler’s Rigoletto Fantasy with Lady Jeanne Galway. The first half of the program includes Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Piston’s Incredible Flutist Suite.

    Internationally-acclaimed conductor Leonard Slatkin served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl for three seasons. Currently, he is the Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Principal Guest Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and he was recently named Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon, France, beginning in the 2011/12 season.

    Sarah Chang is recognized the world over as a captivating and gifted performer. One of the most remarkable prodigies of any generation, Chang has matured into a young artist noted for her musical insight, technical virtuosity, and emotional range.

    Sir James Galway, “The man with the golden flute,” has inspired countless flutists and music lovers throughout the world. The former Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame inductee frequently collaborates with his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway.
