WHAT:
Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl Bramwell Tovey leads the orchestra in a program of music by Wagner, Elgar and Beethoven, Tuesday, August 31, at 8 p.m. He is joined by young virtuoso cellist Daniel Müller-Schott in Elgar’s poignant Cello Concerto. The program also includes Wagner’s Die Meistersinger Prelude and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7
Tovey returns to the Hollywood Bowl later in the week leading the LA Phil in the concert production of Bernstein’s comic operetta Candide. Featured soloists include: Richard Suart as Pangloss/Martin, Anna Christy, as Cunegonde, Alek Shrader, as Candide and Frederica von Stade, as Old Lady.
In only a few years, the 32-year-old Daniel Müller-Schott has succeeded in establishing himself on the world’s most important concert stages. In the 2009/10 season, he played the Elgar Cello Concerto in Spain while on tour with the Euskadi Symphony under Mikhail Agrest.
