WHAT:
Conductor Nicholas McGegan returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in four performances, Thursday, December 16, at 8 p.m., Friday, December 17, at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 18 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 19, at 2 p.m. Joining McGegan is pianist Robert Levin, in his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22, K. 482. The program also features Cherubini’s Anacreon Overture and Haydn’s Symphony No. 93.
Nicholas McGegan is loved by audiences and orchestras for performances that match authority with enthusiasm, scholarship with joy, and curatorial responsibility with evangelical exuberance. The London Independent calls him “one of the finest baroque conductors of his generation” and The New Yorker lauds him as “an expert in 18th-century style.”
Pianist Robert Levin is considered one of the world’s interpreters of Mozart piano concertos who has completed and reconstructed a number of Mozart’s works. In addition to playing Mozart’s K. 482 on these programs, he will also improvise at the keyboard in various styles.
