Program Update: The Scheduled World Premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Humoreske Will Not Be Included in the Program
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2011, AT 8 PM
This Series is Endowed by a Generous Grant from the Colburn Foundation; Media Sponsor: 89.3 KPCC
WHAT:
Long-time LA Phil collaborator pianist Yefim Bronfman returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall, Wednesday, March 9, at 8 p.m. for a solo recital. The program presents Joseph Haydn’s Sonata in C major Hob. XVI/50, Robert Schumann’s Humoreske in B-flat major, Op. 20, and Frédéric Chopin’s Twelve Etudes, Op. 10. The recital was to have featured the world premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Humoreske, an LA Phil and Carnegie Hall co-commission, but the composer regrets that the work will not be completed in time for the March performances in Los Angeles and New York.
The recital is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity series, which features some of the world’s leading musicians.
Yefim Bronfman is widely regarded as one of the most talented virtuoso pianists performing today. His commanding technique and exceptional lyrical gifts have won him consistent critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences worldwide, whether for his solo recitals, his prestigious orchestral engagements or his rapidly growing catalogue of recordings.
The final performance for the 2010/11 Colburn Celebrity recital series season presents flutist Sir James Galway and the Emerson String Quartet (March 14, 2011).
