Violinist Hilary Hahn returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall in a recital of music by Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, as well as selections from her own commissioning project, In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores, Tuesday, November 1, at 8 p.m. The performance is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2011/12 Colburn Celebrity Recitals, which feature some of the world’s leading virtuosos. Hahn is joined by pianist Valentina Lisitsa.

Hahn’s recital includes Bach’s Sonata No. 1 in G minor for Solo Violin, BWV 1001, Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in A major, Op. 12, No. 2, and Brahms’ Sonatensatz (Scherzo) in C minor. Interspersed through the program she performs 13 of the 27 pieces from her Encores project, an endeavor in which she commissioned composers to write short-form pieces for violin and piano. Hahn is premiering these works throughout the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, and recording them along the way for release in the 2013/14 season. Twenty-six commissioned composers are featured in the project, and the final, 27th will be decided in a non-traditional fashion later in the year. The 13 encores performed in the recital include:

    Lera Auerbach, Speak, Memory

Tina Davidson, Blue Curve of the Earth

    Avner Dorman, Memory Games

    Søren Nils Eichberg, Levitation
