The Hollywood Bowl – one of the premier outdoor music venues in the world and the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic – was honored at the 24th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards at Club Nokia on February 7, 2013, as the Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue. This marks the ninth consecutive nomination and subsequent award representing an industry-wide acknowledgement that the Hollywood Bowl is an icon with a rich and celebrated history, and that it remains a vital and relevant destination for performers and audiences alike.
Renowned for its exquisite setting, the Hollywood Bowl plays host to a tremendous diversity of artists, from classical and pops to jazz, rock, pop and world music. During the 2012 season, the Hollywood Bowl concert series included performances by Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Joshua Bell, Glen Campbell, The Go-Go’s, Ben Harper, Norah Jones, Juanes, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Yo-Yo Ma, Barry Manilow, Reba McEntire, Liza Minnelli, Esperanza Spalding, and Wilco, among others. The team of Andrew Hewitt and Bill Silva also brought a star-studded line-up that included concerts from Aerosmith, The Beach Boys, Coldplay, Florence and the Machine, Peter Gabriel, Mumford & Sons, Barbra Streisand, and Neil Young.
"We are thrilled that the Bowl has been recognized for nine consecutive years as the best major outdoor concert venue," said Gail Samuel, Chief Operating Officer of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "We love our venue and being recognized by industry peers is a wonderful testament to all of the hard work that goes into a Bowl season, from booking artists to producing the shows to ensuring a great experience for our patrons."
The Pollstar Concert Industry Awards honor the best of the concert industry for their accomplishments. Nominees were selected by over 185 industry professionals, and winners were determined by online ballots.
Subscriptions for the 92nd season at the Hollywood Bowl are on sale now.
Nestled snugly in the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural amphitheater in the United States. Seating nearly 18,000 patrons, the Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922; outdoor concert performances each summer feature classical, jazz, and world music presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. The Bowl's summer music festivals have become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland. The Bowl grounds themselves -- one of Los Angeles County's most renowned parks -- are open year-round for visitors to enjoy free of charge.
