WHAT:       Conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl in two concerts, on Tuesday, July 23, at 8 PM, and Thursday, July 25, at 8 PM. Tuesday’s all-Russian program includes Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring in celebration of the 100th anniversary of its Paris premiere, as well as Stravinsky’s Fireworks and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, featuring soloist Augustin Hadelich. On Thursday, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet will perform Liszt’s Totentanz. The program also includes Respighi’s Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome, and Liszt’s Les preludes.

Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos was born in Burgos, Spain in 1933. He is a regular guest with North America’s top orchestras and was named Conductor of the Year by Musical America in 2011. Several of his recordings are considered to be classics, including his interpretations of Mendelssohn’s Elijah and St. Paul, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bizet’s Carmen, and the complete works of Manuel de Falla.

With his poetic style and dazzling technique, Augustin Hadelich has established himself as a rising star among the new generation of violinists. Winner of the 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant and gold medalist of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, his versatility across the entire spectrum of the violin repertory is astounding.

Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet has the rare ability to combine poetic musical sensibilities with dazzling technical prowess. He has performed around the world for more than 30 years and recorded more than 50 albums. The Hollywood Bowl honored Thibaudet for his musical achievements by inducting him into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2010.
