WHAT:       Pianist András Schiff wraps up his two-year exploration of Bach’s keyboard music with three performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Wednesday, October 9, at 8 pm, Wednesday, October 16, at 8 pm, and Sunday, October 20, at 7:30 pm. In the first evening, a Colburn Celebrity Recital, he plays Bach’s English Suites. The following Wednesday, he takes on Bach’s Six Partitas in a Baroque Variations performance. Schiff concludes on Sunday with the Goldberg Variations and Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations in a Colburn Celebrity Recital.

Schiff’s Bach Project follows his successful two-year project in which he performed all 32 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas in seasons 2007/08 and 2008/09.

Indisputably one of the most prominent proponents of the keyboard works of J.S. Bach, András Schiff has long proclaimed that Bach stands at the core of his music making. In addition to Walt Disney Concert Hall, Schiff has taken the Bach Project to San Francisco’s Symphony Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Individual recitals were presented in Vancouver, Seattle, Washington, DC, Chicago, Santa Barbara, Chapel Hill, Ann Arbor, Boston and Toronto.

Schiff has established a prolific discography, and since 1997 has been an exclusive artist for ECM New Series and its producer, Manfred Eicher. Recent recordings for ECM include his second recordings of the Bach Partitas and Goldberg Variations, The Well Tempered Clavier, Books I and II, and now Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations recorded on two instruments: a Bechstein from 1921 and an original fortepiano from Vienna 1820 – the place and time of the composition.
