    Thirteen-Concert Series Reaches Listeners in Southern and Central California and Millions More Through Syndication in Over 150 U.S. Markets

    The KUSC broadcast series of the Los Angeles Philharmonic has been made possible through the support of the Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl

    Los Angeles, CA (March 20, 2017) - The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership, reaching listeners in Southern and Central California. The 13 concerts, recorded during the LA Phil’s 2016/17 season, feature the orchestra with an impressive roster of guest artists and conductors. Through the organizations’ ongoing partnership with WFMT Radio Network (Chicago), the 2017 broadcast series will also be syndicated nationwide.

    The first concert in the 2017 broadcast series will air locally on KUSC’s SoCal Sunday Night program, the station’s weekly local concert spotlight, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 7:00 PM, and feature Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leading the LA Phil with pianist Yefim Bronfman and the St. Lawrence String Quartet.

    Additional series highlights include performances by noted soloists: cellist Steven Isserlis; organist James McVinnie; pianists Hélène Grimaud, Stephen Kovacevich, Daniil Trifonov, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Yuja Wang; sitarist Anoushka Shankar; vocalists Michelle DeYoung, Elīna Garanča, Rachele Gilmore, Joshua Guerrero, Johannes Kammler, Simon Keenlyside and Christianne Stotijn. The series will also feature the hornroh modern alphorn quartet, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Schola Cantorum Reykjavík. Guest conductors include: Thomas Adès, Stéphane Denève, James Gaffigan, LA Phil Assistant Conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Zubin Mehta, LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jaap van Zweden.  

    The series, hosted by KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen, features interviews with soloists and orchestra members, offering unique insights and giving listeners a more in-depth perspective.

    The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Music Director & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music from all genres - orchestral, chamber and Baroque music, organ and celebrity recitals, new music, jazz, world music and pop - at two of L.A.'s iconic venues, Walt Disney Concert Hall (www.laphil.com) and the Hollywood Bowl (www.HollywoodBowl.com). The LA Phil's season extends from September through June at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and throughout the summer at the Hollywood Bowl.     Classical KUSC, located in the USC building in downtown Los Angeles, broadcasts hand-picked commercial-free classical performances, expert music commentary and coverage of the arts in Southern California. The listener-supported station has been broadcasting for more than 60 years as a broadcast service of the University of Southern California at 91.5(FM) in Los Angeles and Santa Clarita, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, 93.7 KDB in Santa Barbara and 99.7 KESC in Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo. It is live-streamed at kusc.org, attracting listeners from around the globe.

    The WFMT Radio Network, the global fine arts radio syndication division of Window to the World Communication, Inc., (Chicago) produces more than three dozen fine arts radio series and specials for broadcast on hundreds of stations throughout the United States and the rest of the world.
