Jazz at the Bowl continues on Wednesday, August 4, at 8:00 p.m. with Piano Masters, a program capturing the essence of jazz piano. The evening spotlights some of the genre's leading performers, featuring RamseyLewis, the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and McCoy Tyner. The concert also includes a tribute to the late KKJZ DJ, Chuck Niles.

Piano Masters features three distinct styles of jazz piano playing. The legendary Lewis dazzles with his middle-of-the-road jazz; Brubeck displays his swinging sound of pop jazz; and Tyner demonstrates his virtuosity with his be-bop inspired playing.

The Jazz at the Bowl series continues on August 11 featuring Willie Colon, Los Hombres Calientes, and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra; New Orleans Night on August 18 featuring the Neville Brothers, Terence Blanchard, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band; Cool, Pure, 200-Proof featuring the Zawinul Syndicate, the Dave Holland Big Band, and the Michael Brecker Quindectet; and A Night With Blue Note on September 1, celebrating the legendary jazz record label featuring Van Morrison with Dianne Reeves and special guests.

Pianist DAVE BRUBECK has long proved that jazz and popular success can go together, and he remains one of the few household names in jazz. His use of difficult time signatures and polytones in music that is fundamentally accessible is exemplified by his success with Take Five which went on to become a world-wide hit for the Quartet. Sax player Paul Desmond's cool alto was the signature sound of the Quartet in the '60s, and they went on to tour the world until the original group's breakup in 1967. Since then Brubeck has led the Quartet with several different instrumentalists including his sons. Brubeck is also a prolific composer and continues to record regularly. His most recent recording is New Brubeck Quartet Live at Montreux. Dave Brubeck last performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 2003.

Composer, pianist, and jazz legend RAMSEY LEWIS has been referred to as "the great performer," a title reflecting his performance style and musical selections which display his early gospel playing and classical training along with his love of jazz and other musical forms. Lewis has an impressive collection of accolades, including three Grammy Awards, seven gold records, three honorary doctorates, and a Recording Academy Governor's Award. When he isn't hosting a weekday morning drive-time radio show on WNUA-FM in Chicago, he can be found recording and performing live. Ramsey Lewis last played the Hollywood Bowl in 1997.

McCOY TYNER has been one of the most influential jazz pianists in the last 50 years with a style that has remained distinctive since the beginning of this career. Tyner grew up in Philadelphia and met saxophonist John Coltrane, whose band he later joined in 1960, forming one of the all-time classic quartets with bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones. His powerful playing was never overshadowed by the heavyweight saxophonist. He continues to lead his own group, and his most recent recording is Hip Toe: Live at the Musicians Exchange Cafe. He last performed at the Bowl in 1997.
