Tim Biskup is a Southern California fine artist whose work has been shown worldwide, including galleries and museums in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Kyoto, Barcelona, Berlin, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Melbourne. Long recognized for his complex color and design theories and a decidedly populist aesthetic, Biskup has amassed a cadre of loyal fans and collectors. Recent years have seen the artist tend towards more complex, personal and conceptual work while maintaining a commitment to visual experimentation. With a consistent output of original artwork, prints, sculptures, books and other editions Tim Biskup has produced a body of work that extends into the far reaches of the art and design worlds. In 2004 he opened Bispop Gallery, a small retail shop and exhibition space located in the Old Town section of Pasadena, California.

    Artist: Camille Rose Garcia

Camille Rose Garcia was born in 1970 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the generic suburbs of Orange County, visiting Disneyland and going to punk shows with the other disenchanted youth of that era. Her paintings of creepy cartoon children living in wasteland fairy tales are critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias. Creative influences include Phillip K. Dick, William Burroughs, Henry Darger, Walt Disney, as well as politically aware bands like The Clash and Dead Kennedys. Her recent solo show, Ultraviolenceland, explored ideas of violence and empire. Her work has appeared in Flaunt Magazine, Rolling Stone, Juxtapoz, and Paper Magazine, among others. She currently lives in Los Angeles.

    Artist: Kii Arens

Kii Arens is a Pop-Art designer with a bent towards Rock-N-Roll. Never formally trained, this St. Paul, Minnesota native grew up with a fascination for album covers, band logos, and font styles. He credits Saturday mornings in the ‘70s spent watching Sid and Marty Krofft as his main inspirations for color. As a graphic designer/photographer, Kii has designed over 50 CD packages for various local and national artists. He was also the guitar player and back-up singer in the rock band Flipp, for which he handled all design and artwork. Kii's fine art career began at the Minnesota State Fair just a few years ago. His search for a corn dog turned into one of life's happy accidents as it led him to discover the Spin-O-Paint booth. He was inspired to create an oil painting of a SPIN-ART painting in a paint-by-numbers fashion. His first SPIN-ART piece was entitled “La-La Land.” At the time of his 2002 debut show at the Flatland Gallery in Minneapolis, The Star Tribune published an article in which "La-La Land" was inadvertently printed sideways. This accident led to the creation of the character, "La-La" which has since been recreated in many forms including a limited edition vinyl toy. In 2004 Arens moved to Los Angeles to open a gallery appropriately called La-La Land. In the last five years he has curated and been in several artshows around the world. He art directed and photographed Dolly Parton's last album, "Backwoods Barbie.”

Poster: GRACE JONES, OF MONTREAL, DENGUE FEVER – July 26, 2009

    Artist: Niagara

While attending the University of Michigan in 1974, Niagara, along with Mike Kelly, formed Destroy All Monsters. D.A.M. was active until 1985, earning international recognition due largely to the presence of former members of The Stooges and the MC5. Niagara soon after fronted the supergroup Dark Carnival (also with Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, and brother Scott Asheton, The Stooges drummer). Niagara utilized her art school experience in creating album and promotional art for Destroy All Monsters/Dark Carnival performances. Combining an illustrator's hand with some collage and pop iconography, Niagara's style began to take shape and by the early ‘90s she was beginning to show in small exhibits and cafes around the Detroit area garnering her regional praise. Soon art periodicals such as Juxtapoz were heralding her as "The Queen Of Detroit" and many successful exhibits would follow in other cities like Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Sydney and Tokyo. In 2006, a career retrospective of her art and music was chronicled in her coffee table tome "Beyond The Pale" (9mm Books). The same year, Niagara had her first UK exhibition at Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester England. Niagara returned in 2008 for a show titled The Good, The Bad, & The Beautiful. Niagara premiered a full clothing line with the avant-garde couturier Hysteric Glamour in conjunction with her opening in Tokyo in 2007. To coincide with Niagara's sold out shows in Sydney and Melbourne in 2008, Outré Gallery in Australia produced a set of Niagara silkscreened limited edition prints. Also unveiled in 2008 was Niagara's collaboration with Vans. The result was Vans Vault Series that featured seven unique styles of hip urban footwear based on Niagara designs that debuted in Paris 2008. In 2009 Niagara returns to the stage full time with her current band, Hitmen, for tours of Australia, Europe, and United States. Niagara currently lives and works in the Detroit area.

Gary has exhibited in many galleries and museums throughout North America and Europe including Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City and The Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome. In 2005, he launched his first vinyl toy, The Toy Monkey, which included a special edition along with a silkscreen print commissioned by The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. This led Gary to create his own toy company, Chump Toys, which recently saw the release of his OH NO and OH OH vinyl figures. Aside from his gallery shows and illustration work, Gary also devotes a portion of his time teaching and lecturing at various arts organizations and schools such as OCAD University (Toronto, Canada), The Art Director's Club of Houston (Houston, USA), Dankmarks Designskole (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Istituto Europeo Di Design (Rome, Italy). He lives and works in Toronto, Canada.

    Artist: Stanley Mouse

No one put a face on rock music better than Stanley Mouse. World famous for his posters and album cover art, Stanley is specifically responsible for defining the "look" of some of the most famous bands in rock and roll history, such as The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Journey, The Steve Miller Band, and of course, The Grateful Dead. Recognized as one of the "big five" American poster artists, Stanley's artwork has been instrumental in transforming art and design in myriad and incalculable ways. Stanley Mouse grew up in Detroit and was, predictably, a car "nut". His early endeavors in art included a clandestine painting of the local teen hangout that earned him a quick exit from high school and the decision to turn to art training full time. During his formative art school years he began a lucrative t-shirt painting business related to the hot rod and custom car industry centered in California. He drew his inspirations from such industry icons as George Barris, "Big Daddy" Roth, Rick Griffin (creator of Murph the Surf) and others. With the help of his family he established himself at car shows and state fairs and prospered almost immediately. It was while painting t-shirts at Michigan fair that Stanley first turned from creating "monster car" shirts to images inspired by such pop acts of the times as Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and other Motown acts. His lifelong interest in rhythm and blues music exploded into the creation of music images unlike any of that had been seen before. In the early 60's the lure of the California culture called and Stanley landed in San Francisco where he was immediately drawn to the excitement and energy of the Haight-Ashbury scene. Immersed in the culture and music of the times, Stanley and his collaborator Alton Kelley were commissioned to create many of the now classic posters for the Avalon Ballroom and Fillmore Auditorium. His association with Bill Graham and Chet Helms of the Fillmore and Avalon respectively led Mouse and Kelley to new areas of artistic effort and success, his most famous of which came from him partnership with Kelley in creating iconic images associated with The Grateful Dead including the trademark skull and roses icon. Mouse's work, utilizing many aspects of art nouveau style and the influence of Alphonse Mucha's distinctive decorative invention and sensuous beauty, redefined the art of poster.

Artist: Kii Arens and Kii Arens/Gary Taxali

One of the early innovators of rock-and-roll photography, renowned photographer Guy Webster has spanned the worlds of music, films and politics in a stellar 40-year career. While shooting album covers and billboards for groups that included The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel and Chicago, he also photographed such film legends as Rita Hayworth, Dean Martin and Natalie Wood. As the primary celebrity photographer for hundreds of worldwide magazines, Webster's artistry has captured a vast range of talent and luminaries from Igor Stravinsky, Truman Capote and Zubin Mehta to Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ted Danson. Presidential subjects have included Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Today, Webster is still shooting in his studio in Venice, California, while pursuing his passions for family and vintage motorcycles. A documentary about his photographic work is in progress, with past and upcoming gallery exhibits in Spain, Italy and England, as well as Martha's Vineyard, New York and California.

    Artist: Kevin Willis

Kevin Willis is an alternative multimedia artist grown out of the Pacific Northwest. His work has been shown in galleries all over the world, from London to Sydney, and throughout North America. His paintings and art are inspired by his lifelong interest in anthropology and his extensive travel to the African continent and throughout the world. In addition to his own personal art, he has done artwork and art direction for bands such as The Melvins, Tool, Modest Mouse, Big Business, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Band of Horses, and others. Artist: Shag

Josh Agle (probably better known as Shag, a contraction of the last two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last) is a painter, illustrator and designer working in Southern California. His initial intention to establish a career as an illustrator-for-hire was sidetracked when his original paintings began to garner considerable attention from galleries and collectors. Since his first solo gallery show in 1997, Shag has had successful solo exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia. The paintings themselves celebrate consumerism and consumption on vividly colored, sharply rendered panels; the characters drink, smoke and eat in lavish, stylish surroundings. But Agle sees the visuals of his work as window-dressing or stage scenery. He’s more concerned with the narrative of the art. Agle doesn’t offer too many clues about the stories, preferring that the viewer create his or her own narratives to fit the situation. Currently Shag paints in a large studio with panoramic views of a wooded valley in the hills above L.A., part of a mid-century modern home that he shares with his wife and two children. He is currently creating paintings for upcoming exhibits in New York, Paris and Tokyo.

    Artist: Daniel Gibson

Daniel Gibson was born in 1977 in Yuma, Arizona. Later growing up in El Centro, California he immersed himself with skate graphics, skateboarding, misfit friends, rock records and BMX bikes. Daniel pulls his influence from the dusty city of Mexicali, Mexico. He loves hand painted signage and paintings of Ninja Turtles selling tortas to dentistry. Daniel started painting/drawing to make dead end jobs and missing friends seem ok. He travels through his work, a sceneshifter passing from worldly to spirit rapping. Gibson describes himself as “a vessel for the ghosts and angels living inside his body...but more like a host for the party. I keep feeding them making sure they're doing fine, stocking the party with booze and laughter.” Music is Daniel's first love. Growing up, he watched his father plow through old Rancheras and Rolling Stones hits. He soon picked up the guitar and now plays his songs under the name Heat Smoker, after his heat stoke desert upbringing.

    Artist: Burlesque (Mike Davis)

What began as a humble graphic design and screenprinting studio has burgeoned into a team of creatives responsible for the annual Dre Day celebration, the "Do it To it" 12" vinyl series, First Amendment Arts gallery, and the weekly Triple Double dance party at Triple Rock Social Club. Based in Minneapolis MN and led by Wes Winship and Mike Davis, the crew at Burlesque has designed countless screenprinted posters and album packaging for Arcade Fire, The Melvins, Converge, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Phish, Rhymesayers, Familia Skateshop, Diplo, anticon, MGMT, and many others. Burlesque has also published and screenprinted fine art prints for David Choe, Deuce Seven, and Arik Roper. They have collaborated several times with the Walker Art Center's Teen Arts Council, both in teaching a week-long course in poster design and printing and also in leading a team of creative kids in a 3-to-6AM multimedia art-making dance party rave as part of WACTAC's "Don't Sleep On It" event, held in the California Building. In 2008, Burlesque screenprinted a large series of posters for Upper Playground that featured over 20 different artists' Obama-inspired designs. With artists ranging from Ron English to Sam Flores to Morning Breath to Datefarmers to Alex Pardee, and posters hanging up in local storefronts from Big Brain Comics to Treehouse Records, the project caught the attention of Mayor R.T. Rybak, who stopped by the Burlesque studio to see the posters first hand.

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and is home to the best and brightest in all genres of music. The 2004 season introduced audiences to a revitalized Hollywood Bowl, featuring a newly-constructed shell and stage and the addition of four stadium screens enhancing stage views in the venue. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 42nd season. In January 2009, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the fifth year in a row at the 20th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards; the Bowl's summer music festival has become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers, and Disneyland.
