Arturo Márquez’ Homenaje a Gismonti (composed in 1993) pays tribute to Egberto Gismonti, borrowing musical ideas from the Brazilian composer. LA Phil violist Dana Lawson has described how the image of a couple dancing the tango inspires the musicians to convey the sensual essence of the rhythmically intricate work: “Playing this piece was really fun.”
