Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic on tour to New York City, where the orchestra opens Carnegie Hall’s 2024/25 season, followed by two concerts in Bogotá, Colombia.
In New York, the LA Phil and Dudamel perform at Carnegie Hall’s opening gala, with pianist Lang Lang in Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto and baritone Gustavo Castillo in Ginastera’s Estancia. The next night Alisa Weilerstein joins the LA Phil for the NY premiere of Gabriela Ortiz’s cello concerto, Dzonot, followed by Mendelsson’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with María Valverde narrating in Spanish. The last of the three nights brings together the orchestra, Dudamel, and Mexican singer/songwriter Natalia Lafourcade for a special evening of song.
On October 18, LA Phil and Dudamel take the presentations of Dzonot and A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Teatro Mayor in Bogotá, followed the next day by Estancia, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major with soloist Sergio Tiempo.
In between these performances, nearly 50 YOLA Institute Symphony and YOLA National students are joining young musicians from 10 South American countries for five days of music-making in Cajicá, Colombia. From October 13 to 17, the 169 students are participating in masterclasses and teaching sessions hosted by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and YOLA, Orquestra Filarmonica de Bogota & Asociacion Nacionel de Musica Sinfonica. The gathering culminates in a performance, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, on October 17 at Teatro Mayor.
