Music & Artistic Director, Walt and Lilly Disney Chair, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic on a ten-day, three-country tour to Asia, returning to Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei in October.
At each stop, Dudamel and the orchestra perform Frenzy: a short symphony, a powerful new piece by composer and LA Phil John and Samantha Williams Creative Chair John Adams, alongside two of Stravinsky’s most popular ballet works: the romance- and magic-filled suite from The Firebird and the transfixing Rite of Spring.
“If the LA Phil has a signature piece, it’s The Rite of Spring,” Dudamel says. “It still feels bold, modern, and full of energy—just like this orchestra.”
The LA Phil also teams up with celebrated choirs in each city, performing Mahler’s extraordinary Second Symphony. Written for a massive ensemble of more than 200 musicians, the “Resurrection” Symphony is one that Dudamel describes as “the closest thing to being in heaven.”
He conducts the orchestra, soprano Chen Reiss, and mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor with the Seongnam City Chorus and Paju Civic Choir in Seoul, the New National Theatre Chorus in Tokyo, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Wiener Singverein in Taipei.
Support for the LA Phil on tour is generously provided by the Michele and Dudley Rauch Tour Fund and the Karl Loring Fund. Additional funding for performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, "Resurrection," is provided by the Colburn Foundation and PIMCO.
