Beethoven’s Fifth

Walt Disney Concert Hall

Four notes. Short, short, short, long. Beethoven called them fate knocking at the door and said he didn't choose them: they chose him. This program features his Fifth Symphony, paired with a live interview with "Beethoven" himself. Hear how a composer going deaf built an entire symphony in his head, broke the rules of what a composer was allowed to be, and turned fate into joy.

About Symphonies for Schools Elementary: The Symphonies for Schools Elementary program invites students from throughout Los Angeles to experience interactive concerts that incorporate theatrical elements to contextualize the music. The in-person program includes free admission to a concert performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall as well as a curriculum geared towards the program’s themes to prepare students in grades 3–5 for what it’s like to attend a concert.

We have offered these free concerts to hundreds of thousands of students since our first season in 1919 and look forward to welcoming you into our tradition! Please direct any questions to learning@laphil.org.
