Mitsuko Uchida & Esa-Pekka Salonen

Thu / Jan 21, 2027 - 8:00PM

Berlioz’s opium-fueled, love-obsessed fantasy meets Ravel’s jazz-inflected piano concerto.

About this Performance

Widely considered one of the most revered musicians of our time, pianist Mitsuko Uchida teams up with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time in over 20 years. Together, they’ll perform Ravel’s bright, jaunty, and jazz-inflected Piano Concerto in G, a work that, in the composer’s words, “dispense[s] with drama and depth.” Bachtrack champions Uchida for her “lightness of touch and purity of tone [adding] delicacy to a concerto more often known for its drive and high spirits.”

Bookending the program is Salonen’s palindrome-style fanfare and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique—a feverish, kaleidoscopic fantasy that chronicles an artist’s love-obsessed delirium and opium-fueled nightmares.
