About this Performance

Talented young singers from The Fellowship at the Mariinsky – a collaboration between the Mariinsky State Academic Theatre in Russia and the Atkins Young Artists Programs, a U.S. non-profit that promotes the arts – begin this all-Russian program with highlights from Tchaikovsky’s great tragic opera.

Still in his 20s, fast-rising virtuoso Dominic Cheli performs Prokofiev’s thrilling and most acclaimed piano concerto.

One of Tchaikovsky most celebrated symphonies, the Fourth begins with a fanfare representing Fate, and, according to the composer, the first movement proceeds to represent that "all life is an unbroken alternation of hard reality with swiftly passing dreams and visions of happiness.” The entire work exudes the composer’s heart-on-sleeve passionate intensity.
