NATALIA LAFOURCADE is a Mexican singer, composer, and producer who was born in 1984 in Mexico City and grew up in the country. She has written songs since the age of 16 and she released her first album in 2002. Over her career spanning more than 15 years, she has recorded eight albums. She has received 11 Latin Grammy Awards and one Grammy Award. She sang at the Recording Academy’s Person of the Year ceremony honoring Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Alejandro Sanz, and Miguel Bosé, and has participated several times in the Latin Grammys ceremony. She took part in the Oscar Awards ceremony in 2018, performing the theme song from the Pixar film Coco alongside Gael García and the rapper Miguel. In February of 2019, she participated in the Grammy Awards ceremony for the first time, sharing the stage with Aída Cuevas and Ángela Aguilar representing Latin talent with pride.
Natalia primarily sings her own compositions, although she also interprets classic Latin American songs. Her artistic breadth has led her to collaborate with diverse national and international artists such as Alondra de la Parra, Juan Gabriel, Vicentico, Gilberto Gil, Miguel Bosé, Joss Stone, Ibeyi, Suso Muzo, Draco Rosa, Kevin Johansen, Jorge Drexler, Ángeles Azules, Julieta Venegas, Rozalén, Pauliño Moshka, Silvia Pérez, Leyva, Pepe Aguilar, José José, and Gilberto Santa Rosa, among many others. In 2018, after hearing her sing, an appreciative Shirley Manson (of the band Garbage) commented on Instagram: “Natalia is not your typical artist; she blew me away.”
Natalia has performed on important stages of different countries since the beginning of her career, but just within the last three years she has shared her magic on almost 250 occasions in Mexico, Spain, Italy, England, France, more than 25 U.S. cities, Canada, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Peru, Guatemala, and other countries, with her band and different orchestras. She has appeared in festivals as well as concerts, in iconic places like New York’s Lincoln Center, Koko in London, the Bataclan in Paris, and is proud to have been invited on recognized programs like Austin City Limits and NPR’s Tiny Desk.

She has written and performed music for film and television, such as El secreto de Selena, Güeros, Amarte duele, No sé si cortarme las venas o dejármelas largas, El gato con botas, and Locas de amor. She has taken part in the Lunas del Auditorio Nacional, the Fénix film awards, and the MTV awards on several occasions.
Natalia is a humanitarian, caring for the environment and for others, as reflected in her music and her support of social organizations and movements, such as the UN Refugee Agency, Save the Children International, Un techo para mi país in Mexico, and the Safe Passage/Camino Seguro Foundation in Guatemala. She now leads the project to rebuild the Center of Documentation of the Son Jarocho, affected by the 2107 earthquakes in Mexico.
