Mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack (“Josefa Segovia”) leads the vanguard of a new generation of opera singers, infusing her artistry with a mix of intensity, adventurousness, and effortless charisma. In the 2022/23 season, Mack returns to Opera Philadelphia as Desdemona in Rossini’s Otello, to San Francisco Opera as Frida Kahlo in El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, Detroit Opera in Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in performances of John Adams’ Girls of the Golden West. In recent seasons, Mack has made several important debuts including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, and the Teatro Real in Madrid. She has also appeared at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera, Seattle Opera, English National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Verbier Festival. Her many roles include the title role in Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, Beatrice in Béatrice et Bénédict, Romeo in I Capuletti et I Montecchi, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri, Angelina in La cenerentola, Bradamante in Alcina, Rosmira in Partenope, Idamante in Idomeneo, and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. She also created roles in the world premieres of Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Elizabeth Cree (title role) at Opera Philadelphia and in David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s JFK (Jacqueline Kennedy) at Fort Worth Opera, with subsequent performances at the Opéra de Montréal.

Mack is also a distinguished concert singer and has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony, Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande; last season, she made her Carnegie Hall debut with the English Concert.

Born in Buenos Aires, Mack studied at Louisiana State University and was a finalist in the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. She is also an alumna of the famed Adler Fellowship Program at San Francisco Opera.
