Catherine Brookman is a Brooklyn & LA-based performer and composer. She makes music under the name Sullivann and will release her debut album “If a song fades out, it’s playing forever somewhere” this year. Along with making her own work, Brookman is an active performer in experimental music and theatre projects including Meredith Monk's ATLAS with the LA Philharmonic directed by Yuval Sharon (Walt Disney Concert Hall), the 2020 Vanguard Gala Honoring Laurie Anderson (Joe’s Pub), as a soloist with Alarm Will Sound at LA Philharmonic as part of their GenX Festival, with jazz and pop acts Esperanza Spalding and Lorde, in Dave Malloy's Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 off-Broadway and Hair on Broadway. She composes music for theatre, film, podcasts and her work has been seen/heard at Lincoln Center, The Public, Ars Nova, Nitehawk Cinema, HERE Arts, rooftops, parks, galleries, apartments and more. She has created full-length solo maximal live-scores for William Burke's Variations on the Main (JACK), PIONEERS#goforth (JACK) and full ensemble scores for Rady&Bloom's The Upper Room (NYTimes Critic's Pick, New Ohio) and more. Her EP, Elements, was featured live at The Greene Space on WNYC. She recently performed in trio with Eliza Bagg and Kathryn Shuman at LA’s ambient series, floating, in Bronson Canyon as well as on Julius Eastman’s Femenine with Grammy-nominated LA ensemble Wild Up at The Broad. Upcoming projects include a new multi-disciplinary performance piece with choreographer Lisa Fagan & collaborative ensemble CHILD. She is excited to have created the theme song & original music for upcoming podcast Very Unbecoming (Audible) featuring Amy Sedaris. Catherine received a MacDowell Fellowship last year (2022) where she completed work on her forthcoming album.
