About this Artist
Fariyan Alam is a 16-year-old junior at the L.A. County High School for the Arts. He currently plays the viola with the LACHSA Symphony Orchestra and YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles). Fariyan has performed with several ensembles in the past, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic for its Centennial Celebration, the Interlochen Philharmonic for its 92nd season, and the Orchestra Novo String Orchestra at the String Music Academy. Fariyan is new to composition, but his pieces draw inspiration from his varied taste in music, as well as from the music he reads as a musician. He hopes to explore different concepts and techniques in his pieces and is excited to learn through the program. Aside from being a performer and a composer, Fariyan enjoys running in his free time. Fariyan is a 2019/20 fellow in the LA Phil Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program.
