Jimetta Rose and The Voices of Creation

About this Artist

Angeles native, Jimetta Rose has become a mainstay in the Los Angeles independent music scene while simultaneously digging firm roots into LA’s burgeoning creative renaissance. Jimetta Rose’s music is not constrained by a rigid expectation of what art is or isn’t she draws inspiration from jazz, R&B, and Hip-Hop. She’s even been known to spit a verse or two when prodded.

One word that embodies Jimetta’s complex and mesmerizing sound is: SOUL. All aspects of her music from the unforgettable vocals, to the powerful lyrics, which range from enchanting to haunting, and everything in between meshing into an autobiographical testament to love’s healing power. She truly bares her soul and shares her vulnerability as well as her strength. Her songs, her life, her art are a cumulative love letter, an autobiographical testament to life itself.

Raised in church and choir from birth it is no wonder that soul-jazz singer Jimetta Rose wanted to start a choir of her own. Inspired by groups like Rahsaan Roland Kirk's Vibration Society and Daughters and Sons of Lite as well as the messages in the music and lyrics of spiritual jazz masters Sun Ra, June Tyson, Andy Bey, and Pharaoh Sanders, Jimetta began writing songs and brainstorming on beginning a choir. This choir wouldn't be your usual gospel choir, it would be funk, jazz, and soul choir. It's called Voice of Creation.
