About this Artist
French-born Chloé Dufresne won Third Prize at the 2021 Malko Competition and three prizes at the 57th Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, also in 2021. She was a finalist in the 2020 Siemens-Hallé International Conductors Competition and laureate of the Philharmonie de Paris Springboard of Young Female Conductors in 2018.
She graduated with a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in Sakari Oramo’s class in 2020. During her studies, Chloé had the opportunity to conduct the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti, Joensuu City Orchestra, Pori Sinfonietta, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Orchestre de Picardie, and Ensemble Intercontemporain.
She perfected her skills with renowned conductors such as Mikko Franck, Susanna Mälkki, Hannu Lintu, David Zinman, Leif Segerstam, and Matthias Pintscher. Chloé also benefited from the advice of Alain Altinoglu at the Paris Conservatory in 2018 and 2019.
Chloé Dufresne has assisted Sakari Oramo at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the Kokkola Opera. She has conducted Wagner’s Ring for Children at the Helsinki Festival (2019), Bellini’s Norma for Narva Opera Days and in Helsinki (2018, 2019, 2020), and Offenbach’s Pomme d’api at Opéra de Toulon (2019).
She has also been invited for symphonic concerts with Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Opéra National de Lorraine, Orchestre National d’Auvergne, Opéra de Vichy, and Philharmonie de Paris. Recently she made her debut with Orchestre National de France, with which she also recorded “La Marseillaise” for the handover ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2021 –Paris 2024.
Among future projects, Chloé Dufresne conducts Offenbach’s Le Voyage dans la lune at Opéra de Nice and Opéra de Limoges; she will return to conduct Opéra de Rouen’s orchestra; and she is invited to conduct Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, and Orchestre National Montpellier Occitanie. In Finland, she will conduct the Vaasa City Orchestra and the Pori Sinfonietta.
