Australian soprano Janet Szepei Todd is a versatile singer, praised for her “ravishing instrument” and “bright, gleaming tones” (Opera News). A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, she has continued her career both across the U.S. and abroad, most recently performing for companies including the LA Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Columbus, Pacific Opera Project, and New York Opera Projects.  

In addition to numerous concert appearances and new music works, Todd’s recent performance highlights include Setsuko in Jack Perla’s An American Dream, Ippolita in the U.S. premiere of Vivaldi’s Ercole su’l Termodonte, Mimi in La bohème, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, and Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly with both Pacific Opera Project and Opera Columbus. Janet can also currently be seen in Opera Philadelphia’s Opera On Screen series.  

Todd’s career began in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia, with Victorian Opera, where she made her debut as Pamina in The Magic Flute. After performing many roles with her home company, Todd reprised the role of Pamina with Opera Australia before joining its touring company as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Todd has performed with Australia’s leading Baroque opera company, Pinchgut Opera, as Miss Hawk in Salieri’s The Chimney Sweep and Zelmira in Haydn’s Armida. She has performed as a soprano soloist with The Australian Ballet, Sydney Philharmonia, Perth Symphonic Chorus and Baroque Orchestra, and Canberra Choral Society, as well as other organizations throughout Australia. Currently based in Los Angeles, Todd is excited to make her debut with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl.
