Los Tigres del Norte
Hailed as “Latin music’s greatest statesmen” by The New York Times, Los Tigres del Norte are one of the most popular and influential bands in the genre’s history—widely known as “The Voice of the People” for their storytelling corridos that speak out on issues such as immigration, political corruption, migrant rights, strength of family, and cultural tradition. Across six decades, the family band from Sinaloa, Mexico, now longtime citizens of San Jose, CA, have sold millions of albums, charted over 50 No. 1 singles, won more Grammy Awards (seven) than any other Spanish-language recording artist, and been declared among “the best regional Mexican acts of all time” by Billboard. Likewise, Rolling Stone declared their renowned track “Somos Más Americanos” the top regional Mexican and one of the five greatest Spanish-language songs of the 21st century. With a fan base of millions spanning multiple generations throughout the world, Los Tigres have deservedly earned icon status and numerous additional accolades that include multiple Latin Grammys, the Latin Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the first regional Mexican MTV Unplugged album, a Smithsonian exhibit, their own museum, street names in New York and Chicago, their philanthropic funding of the Frontera Music archive at UCLA, and the praise of numerous well-known musicians, who cite the importance of Los Tigres’ enduring influence.
