Marta Ortega

Marta Ortega

Marta Ortega was born in Havana, Cuba. She trained at the School of Ballet "Alejo Carpentier,” National Ballet School and National School of Art. She graduated from the University of the Arts in Cuba with golden title bachelor of dance art, specialising in contemporary dance.

In her early career Ortega choreographed El Mayor and Como un príncipe enano. In 2006 she participated in international cultural exchanges in Italy and the Netherlands. In 2008 she won first place in her specialty at the National Contest of Schools of Art and became part of the cast of Contemporary Dance of Cuba. With this company, she reached the rank of principal dancer and ballet mistress, dancing in works by Mats Ek, George Céspedes, Rafael Bonachela, Jan Linkens, Itzik Galili, Pedro Ruiz, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Carlos Acosta, Billy Cowie, Angels Margarit, Julio César Iglesias and Norge Cedeño. As part of the cast of The equation, she won the audience award at the 24th Internationaler Wettbewer fur Choreographen in Hannover, Germany.

In 2015, she joined Acosta Danza and since then has danced with the company in Europe, the United States and Asia.
