GUSTAVO DUDAMEL AND THE LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC CLOSE THE 2015/16 SEASON WITH A MOZART & PÄRT FESTIVAL AND A PROGRAM OF KODÁLY, LIGETI AND BARTÓK

Posted on

Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra concert added to the Mozart & Pärt Festival

WHAT:

Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in three weeks of concerts to close the 2015/16 Walt Disney Concert Hall season with a Mozart & Pärt festival and a program of Kodály, Ligeti and Bartók.

The Mozart & Pärt festival features two of Dudamel's best loved composers in programs that juxtapose music from two very different eras. Dudamel leads three orchestral programs, including the world premiere of a new work by Arvo Pärt commissioned by the LA Phil, and the local premiere of acclaimed video artist Bill Viola's Inverted Birth, as well as performances of Pärt's Symphony No. 4, "Los Angeles." A concert from the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra kicks off the festival and an organ recital completes this cutting-edge collection of concerts.

Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic give their final 2015/16 season performances in a program of 20th-century Hungarian works - including Kodály's Dances of Galánta, Bartók's Viola Concerto performed by LA Phil Principal Viola Carrie Dennis, and Ligeti's Apparitions - capped by the Miraculous Mandarin Suite from Bartók's scandalous pantomime ballet.
