Programs Air Locally and Are Syndicated To 190 Stations Nationwide Over 13 Weeks

The Los Angeles Philharmonic continues its radio broadcast partnership with 91.5 Classical KUSC for the fourth straight season, airing 13 concerts locally and distributing them to more than 190 public radio stations nationwide, beginning on Sunday, January 9, 2005 (check local listings for dates and times in markets outside Los Angeles). The concerts were recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall during the Philharmonic's 2003/2004 inaugural season in the iconic new building. Locally, the programs air on consecutive Sundays at 4 p.m. on Classical KUSC at 91.5 in Los Angeles, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, and 88.7 KQSC in Santa Barbara.

"The Philharmonic's inaugural season at Walt Disney Concert Hall was historic for both the orchestra and Los Angeles," says Deborah Borda, President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "We are delighted to partner with Classical KUSC once again, this time to share part of our history by broadcasting thirteen outstanding concerts from that season."

The concert launching the series on January 9 features guest conductor David Robertson, pianist Emanuel Ax, and the orchestra performing works by Milhaud, Mozart, and Bartók from the Philharmonic's Creation Festival, a themed exploration of creation and renewal, reflecting the dynamism of opening Walt Disney Concert Hall. The 2005 broadcast series also includes the world premiere performances of three pieces inspired by the new venue: Steven Stucky's Second Concerto for Orchestra (March 6, 2005); Ecstatic Architecture by Liza Lim (March 27, 2005); and Wing on Wing, composed by the Philharmonic's Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, which concludes the series on Sunday, April 3, 2005. Popular radio commentator Gail Eichenthal continues this year as host of the series. Eichenthal adds special bonus features to each broadcast, highlighting various aspects of the concert via interviews with guest artists, composers, and members of the orchestra.
