13-Week Series Airs Locally on KUSC-FM 91.5 Los Angeles, KDSC-FM 91.1 Thousand Oaks, KQSC-FM 88.7 Santa Barbara and KPSC-FM 88.5 Palm Springs

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and 91.5 Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership for the fifth straight season, airing 13 concerts weekly from Sunday, April 2, through Sunday, June 25, 2006. The concerts were recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall during the Philharmonic's current season and feature the world premiere of a new Magnus Lindberg work from the Beethoven Unbound initiative in October, a U.S. concert premiere from On Location resident artist Thomas Adès in February, and an all-Reich concert from this spring's Minimalist Jukebox festival.

Locally, the programs air on consecutive Sundays at 4 p.m. on member-supported Classical KUSC at 91.5 in Los Angeles, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, and 88.7 KQSC in Santa Barbara. Classical KUSC's Director of Arts Programming, Gail Eichenthal, continues as host of the series and has produced special bonus features to make each broadcast unique. Featuring Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and members of the orchestra as co-hosts, Eichenthal highlights fascinating nuances of the concerts with additional insight from guest artists and composers.

"It is an honor and an endless delight to be producing another spectacular season of L.A. Philharmonic concerts," says broadcast producer and host Gail Eichenthal. "This season, I'm particularly excited about introducing our audience to individual members of the Philharmonic. We'll explore the challenges and joys of playing in a world-class orchestra, how the musicians unwind offstage, and how they got where they are (Hint: Practice!)."

The radio broadcast series begins with two concerts conducted by music director Esa-Pekka Salonen from the Philharmonic's Beethoven Unbound, an initiative championed by the maestro featuring performances of all nine of Beethoven's symphonies paired with contemporary pieces: the April 2 broadcast features the Los Angeles Children's Chorus and the orchestra performing Beethoven's Symphony Nos. 1 and 2 along side Henri Dutilleux's The Shadows of Time; the April 9 program positions Beethoven's Third Symphony, Eroica, with Magnus Lindberg's Sculpture, a world premiere performance of music inspired by Walt Disney Concert Hall. This year's broadcasts on Classical KUSC include an abundance of world-class guest artists including conductors Zubin Mehta, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Alan Gilbert, violinists Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Anthony Marwood, baritone Matthias Goerne and soprano Cyndia Sieden, among others.
