Thirteen-Concert Series Reaches Over Half a Million Listeners
in Southern and Central California and Millions More Through Syndication in Over 300 U.S. Markets

The KUSC broadcast series of the Los Angeles Philharmonic has been made possible through the support of the Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky  

Los Angeles, CA (March 16, 2015) - The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Classical KUSC continue their annual radio broadcast partnership, reaching over half a million listeners in Southern and Central California. The 13 concerts, recorded during the LA Phil’s 2014/15 season, feature the orchestra with an impressive roster of guest artists and conductors. Through the organizations’ ongoing partnership with WFMT Radio Network (Chicago), the 2015 broadcast series will also be syndicated nationwide. The 2014 series was nationally broadcast in 313 markets and reached over 3.8 million listeners.

The first concert in the 2015 broadcast series airs locally on KUSC’s SoCal Sunday Night program, the station’s weekly local concert spotlight, on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at 7:00 PM, and features Music Director Gustavo Dudamel leading the LA Phil and Sō Percussion in the U.S. premiere (LAPA co-commission) of David Lang’s Man Made. The program concludes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. 

Additional series highlights include performances by noted soloists: pianists Behzod Abduraimov, Jeremy Denk, Simon Trpčeski, Martha Argerich, Yefim Bronfman and Jean-Yves Thibaudet; organists Olivier Latry and Cameron Carpenter; vocalists Heidi Stober and Gerald Finley; violinist Nikolaj Znaider; trumpet player Thomas Hooten; and horn player Andrew Bain. Guest conductors include: LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, Juanjo Mena, James Gaffigan, Andrey Boreyko, Andrew Manze, and Juraj Valčuha. The series also includes the very first broadcasts of several new works commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, including Stephen Hartke’s Symphony No. 4, “Organ,” Gorecki’s Symphony No. 4, and Kiaja Saariaho’s True Fire for baritone and orchestra.

The series, hosted by KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen, features interviews with soloists and orchestra members, offering unique insights and giving listeners a more in-depth perspective.
