The Los Angeles Philharmonic 2019/20 Season Ushers in the Orchestra's Second Century of Music Making and Gustavo Dudamel's Second Decade as Music & Artistic Director
Dudamel Leads the LA Phil in Five Multi-Night Fall Programs
KUSC to Broadcast a Live Performance of the First Program of
the Season, Friday, October 4, at 8PM
The Los Angeles Philharmonic launches the 2019/20 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall with Gustavo Dudamel leading the orchestra in five fall programs that showcase the astonishing breadth of his musical sensibilities and the virtuosic range of the LA Phil. The 2019/20 season ushers in the second century of music making for the LA Phil, and Dudamel's second decade as the orchestra's leader.
The season begins with two programs dedicated to American Icons highlighting the music of Copland. The first, October 3 through 6, will include Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite, Gershwin's Concerto in F with Jean-Yves Thibaudet as soloist, Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with soprano Julia Bullock, and Can Spring Be Far Behind? by former Music Director André Previn.
KUSC will broadcast the October 4 performance live. The broadcast begins at 8:00 PM (PDT) and will be hosted by KUSC's Brian Lauritzen and Alan Chapman. The concert will be broadcast on air at KUSC 91.5 FM and as a live stream at
kusc.org. The broadcast will be available online at
kusc.orgon-demand for 7 days following the live broadcast.
From October 10 to 13, Dudamel leads the LA Phil in Copland's Rodeo and Fanfare for the Common Man. The program also features the world premiere of an LA Phil commission, Esteban Benzecry's Piano Concerto, "Universos infinitos," with acclaimed soloist Sergio Tiempo. Opening the program is the Symphony No. 2, "Sinfonía India," by Carlos Chávez.
On November 2 and 3, Dudamel pairs Bruckner's awe-inspiring Symphony No. 4, "Romantic," with repeat performances of Andrew Norman's LA Phil-commissioned, and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Sustain. Bruckner's symphony will also be performed on November 1.
Yuja Wang joins Dudamel on November 7 and 8 for a program featuring Ginastera's Variaciones concertantes, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, and John Adams' LA Phil-commissioned piano concerto, Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?
Dudamel concludes his fall programs on November 30 and December 1, with a program of The Rite of Spring and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring Seong-Jin Cho.
