WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL 2022/23 SEASON PROGRAM UPDATES 

Program updates to the Pan-American Music Initiative, Rock My Soul and The Nutcracker in previously announced performances

WHAT: 

The programming for the Pan-American Music Initiative concerts scheduled for September 30–October 2 have changed. The updated program will include Cuban composer Julián Orbón’s Tres versiones sinfónicas, a theme and variations drawing on music from French Gregorian chant to Congolese drumming. The program will also now include music from LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams’ I Still Dance alongside two works from Mozart that spotlight the LA Phil’s harpist and Principal Flute as well as a string quartet of LA Phil musicians.

Rock My Soul, a series of concerts curated by Julia Bullock tracing generations of musical expression and collaborations between Black women artists, has received updated repertoire for the performances on November 5 & 6, showcasing the breadth of composers Florence Price and Margaret Bonds’ musical voices to include newly orchestrated songs, representative works for piano and organ, and symphonic excerpts; full program details are below. Additionally the program for November 11 will now include Courtney Bryan’s Sanctum, songs by Bonds and Price, and Price’s Third Symphony. This concert will be conducted by Jeri Lynne Johnson.

Gustavo Dudamel conducts the LA Phil in the holiday favorite The Nutcracker with a twist, with the updated program including both Tchaikovsky’s suite as well as Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington’s swinging reimagination of the original.
