NATIONAL BALLET OF CUBA WITHDRAWS FROM
HOLLYWOOD BOWL PERFORMANCES
PERFORMANCES WITH OMARA PORTUONDO AND
OSCAR D’LEÓN ANNOUNCED
TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2018, AT 8PM
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2018, AT 8PM
WHAT:
The National Ballet of Cuba has been forced to withdraw from the previously announced The Nutcracker with Dudamel concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 16 (both at 8pm), due to challenges with visas. Concerts with Omara Portuondo and Oscar D’León, both with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, have been announced in their place.
Full programming will be announced at a later date, but both performances will include orchestral music from North, Central and South America.
DETAILS:
Cuban singer Omara Portuondo has been continually performing in public since the age of 15, a legendary singer, part of the historical project Buena Vista Social Club, whose voice reflects a long, creative life of passion and music. She has been singing professionally for an incredible 70+ years and this concert will be her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel.
Venezuelan singer and bassist Oscar D’León will be making his Los Angeles Philharmonic debut. Heavily influenced by Cuban musicians, he taught himself to play bass by listening and playing along to records. Now known as the “Lion of Salsa,” he has an impressive body of work and has toured and recorded extensively.

About the Hollywood Bowl
One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922 and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2018, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the 14th year in a row at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards and was awarded the Top Amphitheater prize at the 2017 Billboard Touring Awards. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer.
