Assistant Conductor Yasuo Shinozaki leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the orchestra's second Toyota Symphonies for Youth concert of the 2003/04 season at the new Walt Disney Concert Hall, hosted by John de Lancie (pictured), on Saturday, December 6 at 11 a.m. The concert, "The Invention of the Orchestra," explores the instrumental families of the orchestra, with orchestral excerpts highlighting strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The program includes music by Respighi, Ravel, Verdi and Prokofiev and concludes with Waltz from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty for full orchestra.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic's Toyota Symphonies for Youth series take place on six Saturday mornings. This year, the series focuses on the theme of invention and is designed to engage children in extraordinary music performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Before every concert, the Walt Disney Concert Hall becomes a musical playground with hands-on art-making, musical activities, dance, theater, and storytelling. Workshops take place in BP Hall one hour prior to the performance.
YASUO SHINOZAKI is currently Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Shinozaki regularly leads the Philharmonic in its community concert series and in the Symphonies for Youth programs. In February 2002, Shinozaki made his subscription series debut with the orchestra in three all-Beethoven concerts. Continuing to work in a wide range of repertoire with orchestras throughout Japan including the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra and Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Shinozaki has also conducted the Helsinki Philharmonic as well as the Turku Philharmonic. Shinozaki made his opera debut in 1993 with The Marriage of Figaro in Tokyo and has since conducted at several opera houses in Japan. Shinozaki completed his conducting studies at the Vienna Musikhochschule with Leopold Hager and has also worked with Seiji Ozawa and Bernard Haitink at Tanglewood.
