Over a Century of Partnership with LA County

Celebrating 100 years in 2024, the partnership between the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and Los Angeles County reflects a shared commitment to artistic excellence and public access. Since the Bowl’s founding in 1924, when its founders gifted the property to the County, the Hollywood Bowl has served as both a public park and cultural gathering place. Today, all three LA Phil home venues are owned by and operated in partnership with Los Angeles County. Public support from the County Board of Supervisors, the LA County Arts Commission, and other entities helps sustain the LA Phil’s work, including YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles), free concerts, and artistic initiatives.

From those early days at the Bowl to John Anson Ford’s pivotal efforts in the mid-20th century to the leadership of today’s Supervisors—Hilda L. Solis (Chair), Holly J. Mitchell, Lindsey P. Horvath, Janice K. Hahn, and Kathryn Barger—the County has championed arts and culture, and we’re grateful to be a part of that commitment for the Los Angeles community past, present, and future.
