The youthful genius of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who died when he was 35, lives again for two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl as conductor Peter Oundjian leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the composer’s works during the last week in August, the 28th and 30th at 8:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, August 28, pianist Hélène Grimaud joins Oundjian and the Philharmonic to play Mozart’s stormy and passionate Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. Two of his symphonic masterpieces frame the concerto – the Symphony No. 29, and the “Prague” Symphony.

On August 30, it’s all-Mozart again as 18-year-old violinist Julia Fischer performs his Violin Concerto No. 4. The concert opens with the Overture to Mozart’s comic opera masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro, and the “Jupiter” Symphony, his final work in the genre, closes the program triumphantly.

Tickets ($1-85) are on sale now at the Hollywood Bowl box office, all Ticketmaster outlets (Robinsons May, Tower Records and Ritmo Latino locations) or online at www.hollywoodbowl.com. A dynamic presence in the orchestral world, PETER OUNDJIAN continues to make his mark as one of today’s most exciting new conductors. Stunning performances and cheering audiences prompted immediate appointments as Artistic Director of the Caramoor International Music Festival (NY) and Music Director of the Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam. Forthcoming engagements bring Oundjian to orchestras in Houston, Phoenix, St. Louis, St. Paul and Vancouver as well as abroad in Belgium, England, Finland, and Spain, on tour with the Saarbrucken Radio Orchestra. These concerts mark his Hollywood Bowl debut.

Born in Aix en Provence in 1969, pianist HÉLÈNE GRIMAUD was accepted by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris at age 13, where she won the first prize in Jacques Rouvier's class in 1985. The year 1987 marked a decisive turning point in her career with appearances at MIDEM in Cannes and at the piano festival La Roque d'Anthéron, her first solo recital in Paris and an invitation to perform with the Orchestre de Paris under Daniel Barenboim. Grimaud has since performed with many of the world's major orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Royal Philharmonic, among others. In North America, she has worked with the orchestras of Boston, San Francisco Toronto, Cleveland, New York, and Los Angeles. She has collaborated with conductors including Abbado, Blomstedt, Davis, Dutoit, Hogwood, Ashkenazy, Salonen, and Zinman. She has recorded exclusively for Teldec since 1999. She last appeared at the Bowl in 1999.

Eighteen-year-old violinist JULIA FISCHER has already worked with such acclaimed conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Yehudi Menuhin, and Jeffrey Tate, and with a variety of the world’s leading orchestras. During recent seasons, Fischer performed the Sibelius Concerto with Lorin Maazel in a concert marking the 70th anniversary of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra; returned to the Ravinia Festival in recital with Eschenbach at the piano; performed Brahms’ with Giuseppe Sinopoli and the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome; and made her Wigmore Hall recital debut with Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the piano. Fischer began her studies at the age of four, and at age nine she was admitted to the Munich Academy of Music, where she continues to work with Ana Chumachenko.
