About this Performance
Since their founding in the 1980s, Kodō has explored the possibilities of the Japanese taiko drum. Three decades later, they’re still making new discoveries. The group returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall for an evening of thrilling, physically visceral music that pulses along to the beat of their collective drumming. Through their surprisingly nuanced playing, Kodō draws subtle tones from their drums, placing them in conversation with traditional Japanese instruments and embodying a range of human experience. “Kodō” can be translated from Japanese as both “heartbeat” and “child of the drum,” and with their thrilling, close-to-the-bone performances, Kodō captures both the physicality and the emotional depth of the taiko.See other concerts in this series
