For more than three decades, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles has captivated audiences around the world while redefining what is possible in mariachi.

Founded in 1994 by renowned mariachi musician, producer, and educator José Hernández—director of Mariachi Sol de México—the ensemble, affectionately known as the “Mariachi Queens,” was established as America’s first all-female mariachi show group, creating a path for generations of women to thrive in one of Mexico’s most cherished and traditionally male-dominated musical genres.

Originally formed to inspire under-resourced inner-city students, particularly young girls, through Hernández’s nonprofit, the Mariachi Heritage Society, Mariachi Reyna quickly emerged as a world-class ensemble celebrated for its virtuosic artistry, powerful vocals, and dynamic stage presence. Its collaborations with symphony orchestras, internationally acclaimed artists, and mainstream performers have helped bridge traditional Mexican music with popular culture. Through distinctive interpretations of mariachi classics and contemporary repertoire, the group continues to honor tradition while expanding the genre’s artistic possibilities.

Mariachi Reyna has repeatedly made history throughout its career.

In 1998, the ensemble became the first all-female mariachi group signed to a major record label with the release of Solo Tuya. Since then, the group has released seven acclaimed studio albums, earned one Grammy and two Latin Grammy nominations, and has accompanied celebrated artists including Aída Cuevas, Lola Beltrán, and Vikki Carr. The group has collaborated on projects for the Smithsonian Institution, PBS, Cartoon Network, and Disney.

Career highlights include performing at the White House for President Barack Obama’s Cinco de Mayo celebration and being featured in global superstar Karol G’s historic Coachella 2026 performance as the festival’s first Latina headliner. This year Mariachi Reyna also was inducted into the California Hall of Fame alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, and other distinguished Californians, in recognition of the ensemble’s lasting contributions to the state’s cultural heritage and the evolution of mariachi music.

Today, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles is widely regarded as the world’s premier all-female mariachi ensemble, whose groundbreaking legacy continues to inspire female musicians, expand opportunities throughout the genre, and secure its place among the most influential groups in mariachi history.
