Leila Josefowicz’s performance of a new violin concerto by Luca Francesconi with the Los Angeles Philharmonic kicks off this series. An afternoon of 18th-century programming features music by Bach, Purcell, and Pergolesi. Former Resident Conductor Lionel Bringuier leads a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto featuring Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour. The series closes with Gustavo Dudamel’s focus on the pure-hearted music of Schumann, which includes Mitsuko Uchida’s performance of the great Romantic composer’s sole piano concerto.
