About this Performance
Nielsen's Quintet, written for the composer's friends in the Copenhagen Wind Quintet, offers brilliant characterizations of each instrument, culminating in a moving hymn of pastoral beauty, while the fascinating and unusual instrumental colors of Jean Cras's Harp Quintet echoes the lush melodies, glittering sonorities, and arcadian visions of his compatriots Ravel and Debussy. And Hindemith's Octet delivers playful twists on Baroque music and 19th-century European dances—including the waltz, polka, and galop—with the composer's trademark mix of unrestrained wit, sarcasm, and humor. Come early and enjoy a glass of wine on us to complete the perfect night out.
