About this Performance
From gender equality to workers’ rights, musical protest and activism resonates through Latin American female artists, who have often led the charge and utilized everything from folk songs to symphonic compositions to raise their voice against injustice. Gustavo Dudamel leads the LA Phil in a concert honoring that musical legacy that includes Gabriela Ortiz’ tribute to Chilean Nueva Canción legend Violeta Parra, a new song cycle by Miguel Farías, and Mexican musician Silvana Estrada performing songs that have resonate across Latino America and the world that explore often-unspoken truths about gender violence and other important topics.
